Co-Director, Justice Transformation

United States
Full Time

Position Title: Co-Director, Justice Transformation

Position Location: CPD/A has offices in NYC and DC, but for this role, we will consider candidates who live outside our office areas but within the US.

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking an experienced, campaign-focused Co-Director for the Justice Transformation program. This position will be leading the Justice Transformation half of the Education and Justice Transformation team with the Co-Director of Education.

About CPD + CPDA

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We work with nearly 50 affiliates in over 30 states and Puerto Rico to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations that envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position

This Co-Director will lead our work with affiliates and network in designing, implementing, and winning campaigns that defund the police, decriminalize and decarcerate communities of color across the country. The goals and responsibilities of this position include developing and leading our network’s campaigns, organizing, and advocacy strategy (at the federal, state, and local levels) aimed at shifting resources away from policing and incarceration, and towards education, healthcare, housing, and other critical community needs. This role simultaneously focuses on supporting local campaigns while building a national field campaign and organizing programs to meet the goals of the Justice Transformation program.

A strong candidate will have significant grassroots campaign experience and have managed policy and/or budgetary campaigns from start to finish, including experience building broad multi-racial and multi-stakeholder support towards campaign victories, as well as fundraising experience.

We estimate that people serving in a role with this level of seniority will come to CPD/A with about 12 years of relevant experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.

The Co-Director will report to the Interim Campaign Manager.
