Position Location: CPD/A has offices in NYC and DC, but for this role, we will consider candidates who live outside our office areas but within the US.

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a National Organizing Manager for our Economic Justice team.

About CPD + CPDA
The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We work with nearly 50 affiliates in over 30 states and Puerto Rico to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations that envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:
This position will drive strategy and campaign development to support CPD affiliate-led campaigns in demanding a just economy, focusing on worker justice, corporate accountability, state tax & budget and other economic justice policies and campaigns. The National Organizing Manager will develop and execute high-impact and game-changing strategies that empower our members to achieve concrete campaign victories in areas such as fair workweek, unemployment insurance transformation, anti-austerity budgets/progressive revenue and taxation, extreme wealth inequality, corporate accountability, and worker-led enforcement, while building power for an economy that prioritizes low-wage workers.

We estimate that candidates will have about 10 years of relevant experience for this position, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not just years of experience.

This position will report to the Director of Economic Justice Campaigns.

Primary Responsibilities
The National Organizing Manager will:

  • Provide coaching, training, and work planning and implementation guidance to CPD affiliates who are organizing and base-building around Economic Justice issues.
  • Create a system that ensures relevant campaigns, policy, advocacy, lobbying, services, research, and education function in the service of organizing and base-building within the framework of movement-building for worker power.
  • Co-lead our affiliate-based Economic Justice (EJ) Cohort spaces and have regular 1:1 check-ins with affiliate organizers.
  • Build, coordinate, and facilitate our political education curriculum, trainings, and materials.
  • In partnership with the CPD/A EJ team, drive strategy and campaign development and planning to grow and maximize the organizing and base-building components of our affiliate-led campaigns.
  • Build and maintain communication and partnerships with unions, coalitions, community organizations, worker centers, other national networks and campaigns, and governmental institutions.
  • Take an active role in relationship-building with funders and actively participate in strategizing for funding proposals, reporting, and meeting with funders.
  • Build an engaged affiliate-centered base and strong leadership of working people to shape narrative and policy demands around our EJ campaign priority areas as well as develop shared political analysis and community solidarity.
  • Create and lead a scaled organizing strategy through EveryAction, Facebook, Slack, Hustle, and other social media platforms, that engages workers in organizing conversations and into a leadership development pipeline.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Demonstrated experience in BIPOC worker justice (including the labor movement) and/or immigrant justice movements, and knowledge of issues affecting BIPOC low-wage workers;
  • A strong understanding of base-building, leadership development, popular education, and worker organizing as strategies for change and the importance of centering the voice and leadership of workers;
  • Knowledge of how organizing, base-building, and policy work are connected; experience with state-based campaigns that build towards influencing a state legislature and/or state budget process;
  • A deep understanding of the inner workings of the legislative process and lobbying and prior lobbying experience in more than one state;
  • Organizing and/or digital campaigning experience, with a sophisticated understanding of organizing flow, raps, relationship building, committee development, and leadership ladders;
  • Strong listening, persuasion, and facilitation skills – experience with popular education curriculum development and coaching is a plus;
  • Experience working within coalitions and collaborating with diverse stakeholders;
  • Strong database management skills to inform analysis of the base and strategy;
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships of trust and mutual respect that move people into action;
  • Spanish language skills preferred, but not required;
