Position Title: Senior Creative Content Manager
Position Location: Candidates are welcome to apply from across the U.S. Those that are near a Popular Democracy office in DC or Brooklyn may be asked to work from a PD office one or two days/week if necessary. Applicants outside of those areas may be required to travel to a Popular Democracy office occasionally.
Popular Democracy is seeking three (3) Senior Creative Content Managers to join our Communications Department. This is a full-time, exempt position.
About Popular Democracy:
Popular Democracy works to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We work with 50 affiliates in 34 states and DC to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations that envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.
About the Position:
We are seeking three Senior Creative Content Managers with experience in video production, web development, and graphic design, who are able to support multimedia needs in a variety of formats such as digital, print, photo, video, web and motion graphics.
This role will be responsible for translating our brand and visual treatments into custom video and graphic materials for use across the organization, including for the communications, campaigns, and development departments, as well as for our affiliates in a timely manner. The ability to navigate this role effectively requires partnering with others in the Communications department and supporting the Communications Directors in strategic planning and guidance. It is expected that the Senior Creative Content Managers will travel and attend in-person meetings and events, including actions with Popular Democracy affiliates and partners, at least once or twice a quarter.
We estimate that candidates will have at least 10 years of relevant experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.
Each Senior Creative Content Manager will report to one of three Communications Directors.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, design, and editing of graphics, videos and other multimedia content with guidance from the Communications Director.
- Support the development of branding, design, and story-telling strategies.
- Manage creative projects for several issue-area campaigns, such as housing, climate, economic justice, and healthcare.
- Collaborate with Communications Directors and Senior Digital Organizers in identifying opportunities for timely creative content, as well as tracking and managing incoming requests.
- Manage web properties and implement web strategies, including development, maintenance, and performance optimization to ensure existing and future websites are helping achieve organizational goals and providing optimal user experience for our target audiences.
- Handle design work from concept to delivery, including generating fresh ideas.
- Maintain brand consistency across projects.
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues engaged in developing creative content, including sharing best design practices for website, social media, email and other communications tactics.
- Assist with the creation and execution of trainings and other support for campaigns and affiliates to grow their capacity to leverage creative content for change.
In addition, potential responsibilities may include the following, based on experience:
- Shooting and filming on site at events and actions for Popular Democracy and affiliates.
- Coordinating photographers and videographers on site at events and actions.
- Determining video and still image selections, organizing our image and video database, and ensuring distribution to our staff, affiliate organizations and press.
- Collaborating with campaigns staff and livestream contractors to ensure high-quality visuals on live streams of webinars, remote and in person events.
- Collaborating with the Communications Directors on developing language for creative content.
- Developing bilingual Spanish & English creative content.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A strong understanding and familiarity with brand building and visual design;
- A keen eye for aesthetics and attention to detail;
- Demonstrated experience producing short videos, creative graphics, websites, reports and/or animation for social change, including using these mediums for social justice storytelling and organizing purposes;
- Experience developing creative strategy in advocacy, political, or movement contexts;
- Experience working hand-in-hand with organizers to integrate offline and online engagement tactics;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time and meet deadlines, and proven ability to work in the context of rapid response moments;
- Familiarity with Canva Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud and ability to support others in their use of those programs;
- Fluent Spanish language skills are preferred;
- The ability to travel occasionally;
- A demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep understanding of challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, and people at the intersections of the above communities.
Hiring Process:
Applicants are expected to submit their portfolio or at least 3 samples of creative content (e.g., video, graphics, websites, photography, brand guides, social media toolkits) as part of their application. Applicants should expect to participate in two rounds of group interviews and a job simulation exercise. Final candidates will be asked to provide references.
