The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a Digital Manager  for The Forge. This is a full-time, exempt position.

About CPD + CPDA

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We work with nearly 50 affiliates in over 30 states and Puerto Rico to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations that envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:

We are seeking a Digital Manager to join The Forge: Organizing Strategy and Practice — an online journal and learning community by and for progressive organizers, which is a project of CPD/A.

The Digital Manager will primarily be responsible for managing and implementing engagement strategies for audience growth on our website and social media. This role will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to help develop internal and external digital strategy, as well as collaborate with The Forge writers and partners on creating digital content that increases audience engagement and overall readership.

This is an exciting opportunity for an organizer to contribute to the development of a growing publication and learning community - which sits at the intersection of organizing and publishing - at a critical moment for our movement. It is expected that the Digital Manager will travel and attend in-person meetings and events, including staff and team retreats, when necessary.

We estimate that candidates will have about 6 years of relevant experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.

The Digital Manager  will report to the Editor-in-Chief, The Forge.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Digital Manager will:

  • Build The Forge’s audience on social media, including Instagram, X, and Facebook by implementing online engagement strategies that are developed in collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Develop and implement a plan to increase readership and following/engagement on Forge social media platforms.
  • Track and analyze readership metrics across social and site platforms, and utilize data to build and adjust digital strategy as needed.
  • Manage the day-to-day upkeep of our social media platforms and website, including developing posting scheduling for articles and accompanying social media content, creating graphics, engaging with audiences, and promoting new content.
  • Translate website content to appropriate and concise social media content to engage readers more deeply with The Forge.
  • Assist Editor-in-Chief with The Forge’s newsletter and EveryAction tasks, as needed.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience in executing digital organizing campaigns online or communications, preferably for a progressive media organization or grassroots organizing group;
  • Experience growing and developing audiences online;
  • Experience in graphic design and an understanding of best practices for content data analysis and implementation;
  • Familiarity with EveryAction or a similar CRM platform and ability to use it effectively, and/or desire and willingness to learn
  • An interest in and vision for social engagement and partnership development;
  • Demonstrated experience in prioritizing projects and meeting deadlines;
  • Creativity to innovate and experiment as we build The Forge; specifically being able to translate site copy into social copy for readers;
  • A deep interest in political education’s role in social media strategy;
  • A commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep understanding of the challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, and people at the intersections of the above communities.

Hiring Process:

Applicants should expect to participate in two rounds of group interviews and a job simulation exercise. Final candidates will be asked to provide references.

Salary and Benefits:

This position is included in a collective bargaining unit represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild. Specific employment terms are subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The salary for this category 2 position is determined by a salary calculation system that is set by the CBA and is not negotiable.
