Position Title: Senior Organizing Manager
Position Location: While candidates are welcome to apply from across the U.S., those that are near a CPD office in DC or Brooklyn may be asked to work from a CPD/A office one or two days/week if necessary. Applicants outside of those areas may be required to travel to a CPD/A office occasionally.
The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a Senior Organizing Manager. This is a full-time, exempt position.

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. About the Position:
We are seeking a Senior Organizing Manager to join our Basebuilding Department.
The Senior Organizing Manager will be responsible for helping to drive CPD's organizing initiative with CPD-affiliated grassroots community organizations. The Senior Organizing Manager is part of an organizing program intended to build vibrant BIPOC working class organizations that can powerfully move progressive change. This program aims to expand the depth and breadth of a powerful grassroots base of member leaders throughout the country to challenge racial capitalism and achieve a world where we all have the freedom to thrive. COVID depending, this job will require frequent travel for various periods of time, up to three times per month ranging from day trips to weeklong site visits.
We estimate that candidates will have about 10 years of general organizing experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.
This position will report to the Deputy Director of Organizing.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Organizing Manager will:
- Work closely with affiliates to develop and help implement organizing programs that align with CPD/A’s national program. This includes working with affiliate programs to track metrics and goals in order to help programs succeed and making adjustments as needed.
- COVID depending, work on location with affiliates, for extended periods of time, in order to work alongside organizing teams, troubleshoot problems, support organizing teams, and help assess the programs.
- Work closely with the CPD/A Base-Building team to coordinate the numerous aspects of field work including coordinated political and campaign efforts, data and digital organizing, and more.
- Contribute to the collaboration and partnership with external partners to create and improve organizing models.
- Provide training to external organizing staff on topics including outreach, retention, leadership development, field outreach, member engagement tactics, campaign planning, and strategic communications.
- Support the development of creative tactics and strategies for scaling organizing.
- Bottom line report on grant deliverables and ensure accountability in achieving goals, which will include writing/contributing to memos and reports on program work.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Deep familiarity and experience with community organizing and issue campaigns including, but not limited to, one-on-one relational meetings, power mapping, direct action, training, group management/facilitation and outreach, and recruitment.
- Experience with membership development and retention and base building; supervision experience a plus to facilitate training and support affiliates in building these skills.
- Significant organizing experience working within a not-for-profit social justice organization or union.
- Experience building strategic plans that drive campaigns and organizing drives, with the ability to lead others towards accomplishing goals.
- A strong track record of winning concrete campaign victories, mobilizing large numbers of people into action, power analysis, campaign development, and building community leadership.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to diverse audiences. This role will require varied modes of writing, including flyers, curriculum, and reports.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to move the work and solve problems.
- COVID depending, the ability to travel for various periods of time.
- Familiarity with EveryAction or other organizing data bases preferred, but not required.
- Spanish language skills preferred, but not required.
- Training curriculum design experience, preferred, but not required.
- A commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep understanding of the challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, and people at the intersections of the above communities.
Hiring Process:
Applicants should expect to participate in two rounds of group interviews and a job simulation exercise. Final candidates will be asked to provide references.
Salary and Benefits:
This position is included in a collective bargaining unit represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild. Specific employment terms are subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Salary under the CBA will be determined according to a salary scale that takes into account years’ experience, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $75,000-$85,000 and category 3.
